 Sales Gorilla Action Steps

  1. Make those around you successful.  While true in many areas of life, it is crucially important in sales.   This includes your co-workers.  They might need your help understanding these truths, and your customers who need benefit from your product.  I would add your family as well.  The more successful you can make your team, the more successful you will be!

  1. Make your boss successful.  We have all worked for an Ape of epic proportion at some time.  Always understand the needs of your leader.  You can both satisfy his or her needs and also stay focused on those things the best salespeople do differently.

  1. Get and/or Keep an absolutely positive attitude regardless of any external or internal events.  Everyone around you feels it, and there is a direct correlation with the positive nature of your attitude, and your ultimate attitude in sale success.

  1. Your largest customers and your largest target accounts are your livelihood.  Fight for them with your life.  We cannot overemphasize the need to stay close.   Think 10-5-5!!! More to come on this will be coming in future supplements.

  1. Price will always be important on some level.  Your relationship with your key customers both existing, and prospects will always be more important!  People will always do business and more business with people they like!

  1. Invest in the Prospecting and networking skills that will be the seeds of tomorrow’s growth.   If you are not yet comfortable with prospecting, please seek to both improve your skills, and force yourself to practice daily.

  1. Be a solutions oriented salesperson.  Both with your customers, and internally in your organization, look for the ways to get things done versus complaining about what you cannot change.  Do not whine.  In this same line of thinking, never forget that it is up to you and not your company!  You are accountable for your own success or failure.

  1. Persistence and more persistence! Think of how young children fight for what they want.  If you have recently told a 5 year old 49 times that he/she can not have the ice cream cone, think how that could apply to your sales efforts.

  1. Continuous learning.   Be dedicated to continuous learning to become better in sales.  Read everything you can get your hands on, with particular emphasis on improving prospecting, selling, and negotiations skills.  Watch and learn from those that are already the best.

  1. Embrace the Sales Best Practices of those that are the best in your industry.    As detailed in the Gorilla Sales story highlighted on this web-site, you can greatly improve your productivity by learning from the best. (This may not be your leadership, or sales manager)  Focus on learning from those who are already where you want to be!   While many salespeople despise planning, it can make a huge difference in your ultimate success.  Planning for your top calls, and how you will advance the sale will make you more productive in all your efforts.  The improved use of networking, and the utilization of whatever team you have available.  This will give you more time to focus on what you need to do which is…selling.  The best salespeople know that relationships matter, and continually develop them inside and outside their organization.  Finally, the win business faster!  They accelerate opportunities by staying focused on their largest Elephants and their needs.

  1. Finally, and what I might suggest is most important, have fun in all that you do!  If you cannot do this, at least learn to fake it.  Positive energy will flow, and it will help you more than you can possibly realize!

Best of luck in growing your sales and helping your customers be successful!
